Gay, who will be a free agent next summer, has made it known that he wants out of Sacramento, but until a trade materializes, the Kings figure to give him an extended run in an effort both to stay competitive as long as possible and build his value on the open market. He was certainly effective toward both goals in the opener, as his efficient shooting and shot blocking allowed him to post a team-best plus-26 rating when he was on the floor.
