NBA won’t award Cleveland 2020 or 2021 All-Star game if Q upgrades aren’t

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cavaliers’ bid to host the 2020 or 2021 NBA All-Star game
and accompanying week of events will fail if construction on upgrades at Quicken
Loans Arena are not underway by Sept. 15, says a letter from the NBA.

The Cavs have used the idea of an All-Star Game as a selling point to renovate
the Q. And the team has warned previously that work would need to begin as
quickly as possible for it to be completed in time to host an all-star event —
a weekend of activities that some projections say could pump $100 million into
the local economy.

But the plan is mired right now in a court fight in the Ohio Supreme Court. The
letter was part of a brief filed by the Cavaliers Thursday with the court. So

Derrick Rose, Cavaliers discussed winning now as player’s top priority Author:

CLEVELAND — The Cavaliers pitched free agent Derrick Rose on winning now and
going to the Finals for the first time in his career, which is something they
can offer more so than any of the former MVP’s other suitors.

A source close to Rose said the three-time All-Star point guard would make a
definitive decision by early next week on where he would play next season.

The Cavs made Rose an offer of one year and either the league minimum ($2.1
million for him) and what’s left of their mid-level exception to the salary cap
($2.5 million). The two sides are expected to meet face to face in the coming

CLEVELAND — Koby Altman will soon be named general manager of the Cavaliers, a
league source with knowledge of team owner Dan Gilbert’s thinking told
cleveland.com.

Altman, 34, would join new Milwaukee Bucks GM Jon Horst as the youngest
executives in the league.

There is no immediate precise timetable for the promotion, though Gilbert told
beat writers about 10 days ago that he needed a week or so to finalize the front
