NEW YORK, Aug. 17, 2017 – Seattle Storm forward Alysha Clark has been awarded
the July WNBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by State Farm for her
efforts to give back to children in the Seattle community.
In her six seasons with the Storm, Clark has demonstrated a commitment to
assisting Seattle youth. At the Storm’s July 6 home game, she collected toys
from fans for her annual toy drive benefiting Seattle Children’s Hospital, which
she visits once a week. On July 17, Clark visited Seattle Children’s and
delivered the donated toys to kids in need.
Clark also spent time at Seattle’s Swedish Medical Center to take part in the
Storm/Swedish Girls Leadership Session on July 13. Joined by Storm President and
General Manager Alisha Valavanis, Clark shared perspective on her WNBA journey
as well as the importance of eating healthy, being positive and showing
leadership qualities.
“It’s really humbling [to receive this award],” said Clark. “I’ve never won an
award in the WNBA, so for this to be my first one, I’m really happy and
thankful, because it’s about others. That’s something that I pride myself in.”
The WNBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by State Farm is awarded monthly
during the season to the player who best reflects the WNBA’s passion to make a
difference in the community. In recognition of Clark’s efforts, the WNBA and
State Farm will donate $5,000 to support Strong Against Cancer, which helps
fight pediatric cancer. This marks the third season that Clark has pledged $25
to Strong Against Cancer for each three-pointer she makes.
