From Masai Ujiri
President & GM, Toronto Raptors | Found & President, Giants of Africa
In honour of a turly inspiring hero, I am pleased to announce the second annual The Giant of Africa event – a celebration of the life and work of Nelson Mandela on the anniversary of his passing.
In 2003 Giants of Africa was founded with a mission – to use basketball as a tool to educate and enrich the lives of the youth of Africa. By inspiring hope, dedication, hard work and perseverance, GOA has created a movement to a better, more sustainable and bright future for African Youth. Thorought the years, we have grown exponentially and continue to change lives and affect more African countries with the help and dedication of our supporters.
Nelson Mandela saw the potential of Africa and dedicated his life to changing the world in which we live while inspiring a movement towards social justice, peace and equal human rights. So much of what the world needs and deserves is what this great man was about – he knew that sport had the power to change the world – and that is what GOA aims to accomplish.
On December 5th 2015 – join us as we celebrate the man behind the movement, while raising funds to continue his mission through the work of Giants of Africa and the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Building on the foundations of our inaugural year, we have invited several new guest speakers that have been personally touched by Mandela’s life and message. Hosted at the Air Canada Centre, Toronto’s top community memebers and friends from around the globe will attend an intimate reception before attending the Raptors game against the 2015 NBA Champions – the Golden State Warriors.
