Putting Steph’s Three-Point Shooting Into Historical Perspective

Based on what Steph Curry’s done over the past two seasons (and really, four), tying Kyle Korver’s record for consecutive games with a made 3-pointer (127) didn’t come as a shock. If Curry can break the record on Thursday vs. Orlando (NBA LEAGUE PASS), that, too, feels almost like a given.

Because if it seems like Curry makes five threes a night, he does. Well, 4.9 exactly. And not only is that a 36 percent jump from his record-setting pace last year, it’s enough to make his whole 2015-16 season look like a typo…if he didn’t conjure up some magic every single night.

Per the Warriors’ PR department…

– Coming into Thursday’s game, Curry needs just 21 3-pointers to pass his NBA-record total of 286 from 2014-15 (which broke his own previous NBA record). He has 25 more games left.

– His 2015-16 season ALREADY ranks fifth in NBA single-season history for made 3-pointers.

– He leads the league in 30-point games (26), 40-point games (9) and 50-point games (2) this season

– He’s the first player in NBA history to hit 200 3-pointers in four straight years

– Since his streak began, on 13 November 2014, he’s averaging 26.3 points a night and 45.3 percent from 3-point range, with a record of 112-15.

– Including the postseason, Curry has hit a three in 148 consecutive games, the longest such streak in NBA history (regular-season and playoffs combined)

– How much better is this Curry from last year’s MVP? Last year, he scored 23.8 points per game. This term, he’s at 30.0, seeing the highest year-over-year scoring average of any reigning MVP in league history (per the Elias Sports Bureau).
