Postgame Notes: Storm Beat Sparks, 88-63

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

— Seattle raced to a 24-9 lead after one, holding the Sparks to 4-for-18
shooting while connecting on 50 percent (8-for-16) of its field goals en
route to building a double-digit lead. The Storm ultimately entered the
locker room with 42-33 advantage, notching 12 points apiece from Breanna
Stewartand Natasha Howard.
— Sue Bird moved into sole possession of No. 6 in the WNBA’s all-time
steals list with a pick at the 5:34 mark of the second quarter to pass
DeLisha Milton-Jones. She now has 625 for her career.
— Seattle secured its first win in Los Angeles since the 2015 season. The
Storm snapped a three-game losing streak against the Sparks, winning its
first game in LA since Aug. 11, 2015 (85-77).
KEY STATS OF THE GAME

— Seattle owned a 36-26 rebound edge in tonight’s victory, led by nine
boards from Natasha Howard.
— The Storm simply outshot the Sparks tonight, owning a 51.7 to 37.3
percent edge from the field and outscoring LA from deep, 21-6.

STORM HIGHLIGHTS

— Storm forward Alysha Clarkscored a season- and team-high 17 points on
4-for-5 shooting, including an 8-for-8 effort from the charity stripe.
Her eight made free throws marks a career-high for free throws made. Her
previous high was seven free throws, achieved two times in her career.
— Jewell Loyd has scored in double figures in all seven games this season.
She finished with 10 points and four assists.
— Breanna Stewartbooked 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting to go along with
five boards and two steals.
— Storm veteran Sue Bird dished out a game-high eight assists. She’s
registered five or more dimes in five of the Storm’s seven games in
2018.
— Forward Natasha Howard just missed her second double-double of the
season with 16 points and nine rebounds. She has now scored in double
figures in six games this season.
— Rookie guard and former UCLA standout Jordin Canadamade her return to
Los Angeles tonight, scoring four points and totaling four dimes.
— A shot-blocking machine, Natasha Howard posted three rejections in
tonight’s win. She now has 15 for the season.
— Seattle held Los Angeles to nine first-quarter points, a season-low for
the Sparks in the first frame and a season-low allowed by the Storm in
any quarter this season.
— Alysha Clark set a career-high for steals with five picks. Her previous
career-high was three dimes, achieved three times in her career.
— Jewell Loydsaw her consecutive free throw streak end at 37 consecutive
makes, a career high for the fourth-year player out of Notre Dame. She
is now 36-for-37 on the season.
— Courtney Paris came off the bench to tie a season-high with eight
points. She scored eight earlier this season vs. Las Vegas on 5/31/18.
— Seattle had a season-high 12 steals tonight, five of which came from
Alysha Clark.
— With the win, Seattle snapped a three-game losing streak in Los Angeles
and won its first game in LA since Aug. 11, 2015 (85-77).
— The Storm improved to 12-23 on the road against the Sparks.
