Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry: On where the conversation begins after tonight’s game: “I don’t really know, to be honest with you. I wish I had answers. I don’t have answers, but we’re going to come up with answers. It’s not fair to the fans. It’s not fair to anybody for us to come out and have that kind of effort. It really isn’t. And when I say ‘us’ I mean all of us: coaches, players, everybody. It’s just not good. I’m really disappointed in the way we approached the game. We tried time and time again to say that it doesn’t matter who is playing and who is not playing. Usually in these kinds of situations, guys try to step it up anyway because they are trying to earn extra minutes. And we didn’t react. I wish I knew, but I don’t.”
On thoughts about changing practice or routines: “I guess the thing that is even more alarming is that the fact the last two days we had great practices with great energy, great execution and competitiveness and play against an opponent and we don’t have it. I don’t know what the answer is, but we are going to find out.”
Pelicans Guard Eric Gordon: On what’s frustrating about the team’s inconsistency: “It’s just tough. One day you play great offensively, the next day you don’t. It’s just inconsistent all around. I don’t have too many answers because we have the talent to do it, but it’s just nowhere near getting there.”
On playing against a team with only one starter: “We’ve been struggling and at the end of the day, you have to hold guys accountable. At the end of the day, you have to hold guys accountable. Everybody is struggling, but we just have to hold our guys accountable more, if anything.”
Pelicans Forward Anthony Davis: On if he is having fun: “Not when you’re losing. Nobody has fun when you’re losing. The way we played tonight, everybody left out there. They made tough shots. It was tough. The way we played tonight wasn’t fun, but everyone should just stay positive. You gotta have fun, if you’re not having fun then you shouldn’t be playing the game.”
On his emotions after tonight’s loss: “It’s frustrating, more so the fact that we had the opportunity to move up in the rankings, but we just can never seem to do it. It’s not like we’re 15 games behind; 4 games, 5 games we just never get over that hump. It’s mostly frustrating, but I know we can do it. We just have to find a way to put some wins together.”
