After two NBA seasons with the New York Knicks, guard Langston Galloway returned home to Louisiana in July when he signed as a free agent in New Orleans. Galloway is a Baton Rouge native who excelled in high school at the city's Christian Life Academy, before heading to college at St. Joseph's in Philadelphia. Galloway, who has therefore spent the past six winters living in the Northeast, sat down with Pelicans.com to discuss his background and interests away from basketball:
Best moment as an athlete: “Winning the Atlantic 10 tournament in college. It was definitely a high moment and a proud moment for my school, just making history.”
How he chose his current uniform number of 10: “This is actually my college number, which I went back to here. I was No. 2 with New York. I was No. 11 in high school, but I wasn't going to be able to get that in college, so I went with 10.”
One thing fans might be surprised to know about him: “I love playing golf and I'm a big video game guy.”
Favorite thing about New Orleans: “The jazz music. My wife and I like to go around the city and listen to the music. Also there are so many historical buildings here. Just being in New Orleans is great and I'm glad to be part of it.”
Pregame ritual: “Listening to music. I have a few different playlists that I stick to.”
First job: “Being a professional basketball player in the D-League.”
Favorite athlete as a kid: “My role model was Allen Iverson. I always used to love watching him, and I wore the headband the arm sleeve. I also wore No. 3 growing up.”
What he'd be doing if he weren't an NBA player: “I'd be doing something in business. I have two degrees from college – in sports marketing and communications – so maybe something along the lines of broadcasting.”
Closest friends currently playing on other NBA teams: “NBA-wise, a lot of guys from the Knicks, such as Tim Hardaway Jr. and Carmelo Anthony. Also Thaddeus Young, Kevin Seraphin, Jordan Clarkson.”
Favorite type of music: “I love R&B, but I can listen to anything really, whether it's jazz, Christian rap, hip-hop, whatever it is.”
Favorite TV shows: “I'm a big cartoon guy, so I like the Regular Show on Cartoon Network. Also Gumball.”
Favorite movie of all time: “Space Jam.”
Favorite websites: “I'm always on ballislife.com, checking out the next up-and-coming high schooler. The videos they have are great, such as Ankle Breakers. I was actually on there last season, when I got crossed up by Dwyane Wade. I was definitely dreading seeing that.”
