The Knicks returned to Madison Square Garden looking to shake off a disappointing finish to Friday’s game in Chicago, and no one was more ready for a change of fortune than Arron Afflalo. The shooting guard had cooled considerably of late, scoring fewer than six points per game over the last three — nearly half his season average.
Both team and player were successful in today’s Sunday matinee, Afflalo exploding for a seaosn-high 38 points (including 7-of-8 shooting from downtown) to propel New York to a 111-97 victory over the Hawks. Fisher’s squad opened up with an 11-2 run, forcing Atlanta to call timeout less than three minutes into the contest, and never looked back.
Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis and Robin Lopez joined Afflalo in double figures as the Knicks put together a team effort in the victory. They’ll head to Atlanta to conclude the season series on Tuesday.
