Denver Nuggets’ players Darrell Arthur and Mike Miller participated in an NBA Math Hoops Game at Globeville Rec Center on Wednesday evening.
The Denver Nuggets and Learn Fresh have partnered to introduce NBA Math Hoops to 72 after-school programs throughout the Denver-Aurora Metropolitan area. The program is centered on a fast-paced basketball board game that allows students to learn fundamental math skills through direct engagement with the statistics of their favorite NBA and WNBA players.
The Nuggets were the second NBA team to implement the program and have involved organizations in the Denver area including; Denver Public Schools, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, YMCA of Metropolitan Denver, DU Bridge Project, Scholars Unlimited, Athletics & Beyond and Denver Parks and Recreation.
Nationally, NBA Math Hoops community programs are active in 21 focus cities, engaging over 12,000 students. The 2015 program evaluation suggested that highly active participants’ test scores improved at three times the rate of those students who did not participate.
Students and teachers across the city are competing in a yearlong incentive program that will culminate in a City Championship Tournament in March 2016.
