Nets Hit A Wall, Lose To Wizards

The Brooklyn Nets hit a wall on Saturday afternoon. Not John Wall, the Washington Wizards’ star guard who had 22 points and 13 assists, but a fourth-quarter wall. The Nets were outscored 32-19 in the fourth, ultimately losing 111-96 at Barclays Center. “That was a tough one,” head coach Lionel Hollins said. “We started turning the ball over and it just steamrolled. We couldn’t get it back no matter what we did lineup wise, it just didn’t happen and they just dominated that stretch.”The Nets committed nine turnovers in the fourth, a primary reason a two-point deficit turned into a 15-point loss. In perspective to the rest of the game, the Nets had 11 turnovers through the first three quarters. “We turned the ball over three of four times and they were able to jump out to a nice little lead,” said Thaddeus Young, who posted his 16th double-double (16 points, 14 rebounds) of the season. “They were able to pick us apart on the same play pretty much.”At 89-84, the game was still close with seven minutes to play, but the Wizards went on a 13-0 run, extending their lead to 102-84. Jarell Eddie scored 12 points for the Wizards in the fourth, going 4-of-4 from deep. “They hit a few big threes and I don’t think we did a good job adjusting to what they were doing,” said Brook Lopez, who had a team-high 19 points (9-of-16) and 11 boards. “It kind of just fell apart from there. They got hot and kept going.”Jarrett Jack was the third Net to record a double-double, knocking down 15 points with 11 assists. Bojan Bogdanovic scored 14 points (6-of-12, 2-of-6 from deep) as four of the Nets’ five starters scored in double digits. Marcin Gortat led all players with 25 points (10-of-15) as the Wizards won their fourth straight game.Saturday’s loss halted the momentum generated by a win over the Chicago Bulls and a hard-fought, overtime loss to the Dallas Mavericks, but Joe Johnson said the best thing to do is move forward. “I don’t dwell on it,” Johnson said. “I try to move forward and worry about the present. It’s disappointing that we played great against the Bulls and I guess you could say the last couple of games, but we have to put [today] behind us and move forward.”The Nets head out on a three-game road trip, starting in Miami on Monday night. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
