Al Horford recently took a few minutes to answer questions for fans. Here’s what he had to say!
Al, how’s it feel being on the same team for so long? In a day and age teams trade their best players away often?
For me it’s a great privilege to be able to be part of the same team all these years. Being here in the city of Atlanta, a great city, being part of the Hawks organization for me has been great. And I know I’m very fortunate, because like you said, there’s a lot of movement these days.
Which soccer team do you like?
You know what? I don’t have one in particular, but I do watch certain leagues. In the Spanish league I root for Barcelona and in the Premier League I root for Manchester United.
When you’re eating a bowl of cereal what do you pour first, the milk or the cereal?
Cereal! You gotta pour the cereal first and adjust with the milk.
What’s your favorite NBA legend and why?
Wow. Magic Johnson. He could do it all, Showtime. He was a complete type of player. Scoring, rebounding, passing, defending.
What do you do on off days?
Sleep, hang out with my family a lot. I have a newborn, so I spend a lot of with my family. When I get a chance, I go to the movies. I really try to stay relaxed and take advantage as much as possible. When it’s nicer out I like going outside to the park and doing something outdoors.
When did you realize you can play basketball professionally?
It was dream of mine, but when I actually realized I really could is when I finished my freshman year at Florida, I felt like I had a good year. I had a good SEC Tournament and at that point I thought I had a really good chance of playing pro.
What was your biggest struggle in achieving your big dream? How did you overcome it?
My biggest struggle was probably having to move from the Dominican to the United States to go to high school. Moving to Michigan, the weather, the language, I didn’t speak English at all. That adjustment for me was difficult at the beginning.
