Meyers Leonard: Records more fouls than points Monday

With the newly-acquired Jusuf Nurkic unavailable for Monday’s game, coach Terry
Stotts turned to Leonard to pick up the start at center in place of the
since-traded Mason Plumlee, but the former first-round pick was abysmal, missing
all six of his attempts from beyond the arc and accruing more fouls (five) than
points (two). Meanwhile, backup Ed Davis recorded a double-double in 27 minutes,
and his steady track record of production on the boards probably makes him a
more useful option in deeper leagues than Leonard now that Plumlee is out of the
picture. However, once Nurkic has a chance to get acclimated to his new
surroundings, it’s expected that he’ll receive a look as the club’s primary
center, so he’s probably worthy of top waiver-wire priority among the Blazers’
options at the position.
