Embiid had already been ruled out for the team’s first four games after the
All-Star break, but it now looks like that absence will extend to much longer
than that after the big man’s knee began to swell up. He will undergo an MRI
Monday afternoon, at which point the team may be able to give a more specific
timetable for his return. However, given the trajectory of the 76ers’ season and
how important Embiid is to their future, shutting the big man down is definitely
not out of the realm of possibilities. With Embiid out and Nerlens Noel now in
Dallas, Jahlil Okafor will have the opportunity to see heavy minutes as the
team’s starting center with Richaun Holmes filling in off the bench.
