Hornets sink Nets, 104-96

The Charlotte Hornets (28-26) notched a road win Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets (15-40) at Barclays Center, 104-96.

After a competitive first quarter that left the Hornets up just three, Charlotte began the second quarter with a quick 6-0 run and never trailed the rest of the game. The Hornets' three-point attack was too much for Brooklyn to handle, as Charlotte hit 10 of 27 three-pointers (37.0 percent). The Nets shot just 5-22 from three, giving the Hornets a solid 15-point advantage from beyond the arc.

Kemba Walker led all scorers with 28 points on an ultra-efficient 11-18 shooting, including 4-10 from three-point land. Nicolas Batum scored 16 (5-10 FG) and added eight assists and seven rebounds. Al Jefferson, still on a minutes limit in just his second game back from an injury suffered in December, added 18 points (9-13 FG) and seven rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.

Joe Johnson led the Nets with 17 points (4-6 FG, 8-9 FT), and Brook Lopez notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Nets ran clean offense, as they recorded 23 assists on their 35 field goals (65.7 percent assist rate) and turned the ball over just 14 times, but their inability to shoot from deep sank them. Five different Nets players attempted at least three shots from deep, but none made more than one.

The Nets take to the road for a Tuesday matchup against Portland. Charlotte continues its road trip Wednesday in Cleveland.
