Looking to close out their four-game road trip with a much-needed victory, the Hornets couldn’t manage to knock off the hometown Nuggets, as they fell, 95-92, on Sunday, Jan. 10, in Denver. Similarly to their game against the Los Angeles Clippers the day before, the Hornets fell behind early again in the first before putting together a great second quarter but were eventually done in by an inconsistent offense throughout most of the second half. Jeremy Lamb and Cody Zeller each finished with a team-high 15 points for the Hornets while Danilo Gallinari set the tone for Denver by notching a game-high 27 points in the win.
Turning Points Up by one with 10:03 remaining in the fourth, the Nuggets reeled off an 11-2 run over the span of about four minutes to open up a 92-82 lead over the visiting Hornets. Denver maintained its double-digit advantage until the 2:08 mark of the frame when the Hornets started piecing together a comeback by going on an 7-0 stretch that cut the Nuggets lead down to 95-92 with 45 seconds remaining. Following a Charlotte timeout after an empty possession by Denver, both Kemba Walker and Nicolas Batum managed to get off three-point attempts in the closing seconds but neither one was able to drop as the Hornets extended their losing streak to a season-high seven games.
