CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Cavaliers have officially signed forward Jeff
Green, the team announced in a release Tuesday evening.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but our Joe Vardon has reported
that Green will receive a one-year, $2.3 million deal — a prove-it veteran’s
minimum contract that is guaranteed for the 2017-18 campaign. Green made $15
million last season.

The 30-year-old forward, who has spent time with five different organizations
during his career, is coming off a down year, averaging a career-low 9.2 points

After dropping the Finals in five games this past June, it seemed like Bobby
Womack wasn’t the only native Clevelander who left his heart in San Francisco.

Less than a month removed from the end of the Wine & Gold’s recent run, it seems
like some fans and pundits have already forgotten just how close the Cavaliers
came to making Golden State sweat out an even series heading back to Cali after
Game 4.

The Cavaliers led the Warriors by six points with three minutes to play in Game
3 of this past Finals. Had they been able to close that contest out, and
considering the beating they gave the Dubs in Game 4, the series might have gone

Despite head coach Tyronn Lue checking out a quarter early on Saturday night (We
kid, Coach), the Cavs (3-0) are currently undefeated in NBA Summer League, with
victories over the Milwaukee Bucks, Houston Rockets, and Golden State Warriors.

Why does it matter: Summer League is mostly an excuse for league stakeholders to
do some offseason mingling, but it’s also the first time fans get to see lottery
picks such as Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball in their teams’ official colors. The
Cavs, who traded both of their picks in the last draft, are focused on the play
of second-year prospect Kay Felder, who averaged 4.0 points in limited minutes
as a rookie.

He’s not shy: Through three games, Felder has attempted 43 shots, nine more than
any other Cavs player, but just 11 of those attempts have fallen (26 percent).
His assist-to-turnover ratio (1.67) is acceptable, but is unlikely to change any
minds as to the current status of Felder’s game. The bigger issue for him
appears to be the team’s preference to staff the bench with low-risk veterans
