Players To Watch: Dec. 3
Elfrid Payton, PG ($6,500)
The second-year point guard has been an inconsistent daily fantasy play all season. But he looks like an interesting option tonight against the Utah Jazz (9 ET, NBA League Pass), who will be without their rim-protecting center Rudy Gobert (MCL sprain) for a while. Gobert was out in the Jazz’s previous matchup against the Magic earlier season and Payton tallied 16 points, six assists, three rebounds, two steals, a block and five turnovers for 29.6 FanDuel points in the Magic’s win. If he can have a repeat performance tonight, and cut down on his turnovers, Payton will reach at least five times the value of his $6,500 salary.
? Tonight on NBA TV: FanDuel Tip-Off Show (6:00 ET) ?
Will Barton, SG ($5,300)
The backup shooting guard continues to provide an offensive spark off the bench for Denver with averages of 13.0 points on 10.8 attempts, 7.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists for 25.05 FanDuel points in 29.0 minutes over his last four games. He faces a tough road matchup against the Toronto Raptors tonight (7:30 ET, NBA League Pass). But this game could get out of reach quick for Denver, which would give Barton even more opportunities to produce in the second half against the Raptors’ second unit. He’s reached at least five times the value of his salary in eight of his last ten games.
Ian Mahinmi, C ($5,100)
Mahinmi, a major reason for the Pacers’ turnaround this season, has been a solid daily fantasy option since Myles Turner (thumb) went down with injury. Over his last four games, Mahinmi is averaging 11.0 points on 6.0 attempts, 8.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.8 blocks for 27.75 FanDuel points in 25.8 minutes. His struggles from the free throw line (43.5 percent on the season) caused multiple teams to implore the “Hack-a-Mahinmi” strategy late in games. He went 4-for-6 when the Clippers tried the strategy on Wednesday and it wouldn’t be a surprise if coach Terry Stotts and the Blazers also try it tonight (10 ET, NBA League Pass). That’s a nice, additional source of points from a daily fantasy perspective for Mahinmi.
Jae Crowder, SF ($5,000)
After a slow stretch of games, Crowder appears to be back with double-digit scoring in three straight games. Over that span, he’s averaging 14.0 points on 9.0 attempts, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals for 24.9 FanDuel points in 31.5 minutes of action. He has a great matchup tonight against the Sacramento Kings in Mexico City (10 ET, NBA League Pass), who commit the fourth-most turnovers (16.6 per game), have the fifth-worst defensive rating (106.1) and the second-fastest pace (102.09). It should be a fast-paced, high-scoring affair that produces a lot of turnovers for the Celtics. At $5,000, Crowder is a solid, mid-level play at small forward tonight.
Trevor Booker, PF ($4,000)
With Rudy Gobert out (see above), Trevor Booker will see an increase in minutes for the foreseeable future. On Saturday, Booker had his best game of the season with 13 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks for 43.5 FanDuel points in 38 minutes of action against New Orleans. An output like that is extreme for Booker and should never be expected. But with increased playing time and a solid matchup against the Orlando Magic tonight (9 ET, NBA League Pass), Booker should have plenty of opportunities to reach five times the value of his $4,000 salary. His low price allows you to splurge on two or more high-priced studs.
