CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard Jose Calderon, the
team announced on Monday, July 10 from Cleveland Clinic Courts.
Calderon (6-3, 200) split last season between the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta
Hawks, averaging 3.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 13.1 minutes over
41 games (13 starts). He also appeared in six playoff contests with Atlanta,
averaging 4.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 12.5 minutes.
Entering his 13th NBA season, Calderon owns career averages of 9.6 points, 2.5
rebounds, 6.2 assists and a 3.9 assist-to-turnover ratio over 789 total games
(559 starts) with the Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, New
York Knicks, Lakers and Hawks. He is shooting .473 from the field, .409 from
three-point territory and .875 from the free throw line for his career. The 6-3
guard has also appeared in 24 career playoff contests (eight starts) with the
Raptors, Mavericks and Hawks, averaging 9.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists
in 22.2 minutes per game.
A native of Villanueva de la Serena, Spain, Calderon originally went undrafted
in the 2003 NBA Draft and played six seasons in the Spanish pro leagues before
beginning his NBA playing career with the Raptors in 2005. He has represented
his home country at four Olympic Games (2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016), earning
silver medals in 2008 and 2012 and a bronze medal in 2016.
