Wolves Can’t Handle Spurs At Home

In their fourth game in five days, Minnesota didn’t have enough in the tank as they fell to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night. 116-91.

Karl-Anthony Towns put in a solid effort with 19 points and nine rebounds while Andrew Wiggins contributed with 23 points and eight boards.

The Spurs ended up being too much for the young Wolves as their frontcourt overwhelmed Minnesota’s big-men, and their bench play ended up being superior to the home team’s.

Numbers Game:

70.5 percent: The Spurs frontcourt dominated the Wolves putting in this percentage of their shots. LaMarcus Aldridge, David West and Kawhi Leonard combined for 62 points and 16 rebounds on the night.

21.1: Coming into the matchup, San Antonio was the second most efficient team in the league shooting 3-pointers, averaging 38.8 percent. Tonight, however, Minnesota did a nice job defensively and forced the Spurs to go this percentage from deep.

Hustle Stats: Yes, this is not a number. But the Spurs tallied 13 steals and seven blocked shots on the night compared to the Wolves’ five and two.

Leader of the Pack: Tyus Jones

Going against him former teammate Andre Miller and veteran guard Patty Mills for the entirety of the game, Jones had one of his best performances of the season. The first-year guard out of Duke University had 10 points, six assists and zero turnovers in nearly 27 minutes of action.

Highlight of the Night:

In the beginning of the second quarter Jonathan Simmons tried to drive baseline but Gorgui Dieng said, ‘NO!’ with an emphatic block. Dieng finished the night with two blocks and four points and rebounds.
