Wine and Gold Ingredients for Success

Many of the things required of professional athletes – dedication, hard work and passion, to name a few – also apply to everyday people in all walks of life. On Friday the fourth grade class from West Preparatory Academy in Cleveland received a hands-on lesson about what it takes to be successful, as part of the Cavs “Fit as a Pro,” presented by Medical Mutual and Giant Eagle, and “Read to Achieve” programs.

Thirty students were joined at Cleveland Clinic Courts by Scream Team members Pinque and Motion, first for a cooking lesson in Chef Terry Bell’s kitchen, followed by a reading timeout.

To demonstrate how easy it can be to live a healthy and nutritious lifestyle, Chef Bell taught the kids how to make healthy homemade pizzas. The recipe included fruits and veggies and was simple enough that they can replicate it at home with their families.

Pinque and Motion then led the students through a reading of “Salt in His Shoes: Michael Jordan in Pursuit of a Dream.” The book – written by Michael’s mother, Deloris, and sister, Roslyn – illustrates how the future Hall of Famer was patient and worked hard as a child, despite encountering what he thought were roadblocks.

Afterwards, each child received their own copy of the book and a children’s cook book to take home with them.
