Wiggins, Wolves Fight Off Hawks, Snap Streak

The Minnesota Timberwolves (4-2) defeated the Atlanta Hawks (7-2) 117-107 Monday at Phillips Arena in Atlanta.

The Timberwolves came out in dominating fashion, and it looked like the game was over by halftime, as Minnesota led 72-42 after the first 24 minutes. However, the Hawks had a quick turnaround at the start of the third quarter, and pulled within nine points by the time the final period rolled around. And despite coming back to tie the game at 105, the Timberwolves had one final run in them to pull away at the end.

Andrew Wiggins led the way for Minnesota, scoring a game-high 33 points on an efficient 15-of-22 shooting for the field in 38 minutes. Karl-Anthony Towns also continues to impress in his rookie campaign, as he recorded his second straight double-double, finishing with 17 points and 12 rebounds in 32 minutes.

Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap shined in the losing effort, scoring 24 and 22 points respectively in 35 minutes. However, the team only got a combined 28 points from the other three members of the starting lineup.

Up next, the Timberwolves will head home Tuesday to take on the Hornets, while the Hawks will stay home Wednesday to play the Pelicans.
