After scoring 24 points in Sunday's win over the Nuggets, Wolves wing Andrew Wiggins now has 4,020 points and became the sixth-youngest player in NBA history to reach the 4,000-point club.
The others? LeBron James. Kevin Durant. Carmelo Anthony. Kobe Bryant. Tracy McGrady.
Five future Hall of Famers. Not bad company . . .
The improvement continues for the 2014-15 Rookie of the Year. Wiggins is averaging a career-high 21.8 points per game while shooting a career-best 34.2 percent from the 3-point line. He's also averaging 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, both up from his numbers last season.
Per Timberwolves PR, if Wiggins plays in all 13 games remaining before his 22nd birthday (Feb. 23), Wiggins needs to average 17 points per game to become the league's four-most-prolific age-21 scorer ever.
There have already been plenty of highlights for Wiggins this season, including two 40-point games.
Wiggins is on pace to reach 1,600 points for the second straight season and if he does that, he'll have 4,622 career points after his third season. Among active players, only James, Durant, Vince Carter, Derrick Rose, Damian Lillard, Dwyane Wade and Blake Griffin have scored more through their first three seasons. Among players Wiggins will have scored more than through his first three seasons, a few notable names are Tim Duncan, Paul Pierce, Charles Barkley and Chris Paul.
