White, Spurs Take Down Hawks

Derrick White and his team-high 21 points led the San Antonio Spurs (1-1) to a 103-81 victory over the Atlanta Hawks (0-2) during the Utah Summer League on Tuesday at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

The Spurs’ win was decisive nearly the whole way, as the team led 61-34 at halftime and only lost the third quarter. San Antonio shot 51.4 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three, while the Hawks managed to convert just 34.4 percent of its shots from the field and 21.2 percent from beyond the arc.

In addition to his impressive scoring output, White posted nine assists, six boards, two steals and two blocks in 30 minutes. Jaron Blossomgame accumulated a double-double, posting 16 points and 10 rebounds. Amida Brimah secured a team-high 11 rebounds.

For Atlanta, Trae Young struggled once more, shooting 5-of-16 from the field and 1-of-5 from three en route to 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, one steal and three turnovers. Second-year player John Collins scored a team-high 19 points despite going 0-of-4 from beyond the arc. Jock Landale led the team in rebounding with eight boards, while Jaylen Adams dished a team-high four dimes.

The Spurs’ next tilt arrives Thursday against the Grizzlies, who feature No. 4 overall pick Jaren Jackson. That same day, Atlanta will face off against the Jazz and No. 21 overall pick Grayson Allen, who may enter the contest questionable after missing Tuesday’s game for rest purposes.
