Matthews, a Madison, Wis. native, received a nice reception from the Wisconsin crowd before the game, but that was the highlight of an otherwise bleak outing. While Matthews surpassed expectations by averaging 33.9 points per game and making 78 appearances last season upon returning from an Achilles tear, his efficiency took a massive hit, with his 38.8 percent mark from the field representing by a far a career-worst figure. A rebound to some degree should be expected during the upcoming season now that he’s further removed from his injury, but don’t expect Matthews’ production to match that of his prime years with the Trail Blazers.
