Utah’s Rudy Gobert leaves game after getting hurt on 1st play

LOS ANGELES (April 15, 2017) – The following is a medical update on Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert, who left tonight’s win at the LA Clippers at the 11:43 mark of the first quarter and did not return:

Gobert was initially examined at STAPLES Center by the Utah Jazz medical staff and underwent X-rays on his left knee, the results of which were negative. He was then transported off-site for further magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) testing, which revealed no ligament damage. He has been diagnosed with a left knee hyperextension and bone contusion. He will continue to be reevaluated and further updates will be provided when appropriate.

Now in his fourth season with the Jazz, the 25-year-old Gobert (7-1, 250, France) appeared in 81 of 82 regular season games (all starts) this season and averaged 14.0 points, 12.8 rebounds (fourth in NBA), 1.2 assists and a league-leading 2.6 blocks in 33.9 minutes. He ranked second in the NBA in offensive rating (129.1) and third in defensive rating (99.2). Gobert also became the first Jazzman in franchise history to record 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 200 blocks in a single season.
