The veteran point guard, who’s expected to start the first eight games of the season while Darren Collison serves an eight-game suspension, slotted in with the first unit after coming off the bench in the opener. Meanwhile, Collison received a DNP-Coach’s Decision, allowing Lawson to equal DeMarcus Cousins for most minutes among the starting five. Although it was an admittedly small sample, Lawson encouragingly made 75 percent of his four attempts from the field, an area in which he considerably struggled last season while with the Rockets and Pacers.
