The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the San Antonio Spurs, 102-92, Thursday at
Chesapeake Energy Arena. The Spurs (50-14) were able to keep it close for a
quarter before the Thunder (36-29) managed to slowly build up their lead,
quarter by quarter, on their home floor. Oklahoma City was once again led by
Russell Westbrook, who recorded his 31st triple-double of the season Thursday
with a game-high 23 points, 13 assists and 13 rebounds in 35 minutes. Victor
Oladipo added 20 points of his own on 8-of-14 shooting, while the team’s bench
showed up in an impressive way, accounting for 44 of the team’s 92 points. For
San Antonio, it was a sluggish performance for them as they were playing their
third game in four days, and they saw their nine-game win streak come to an end
as a result. Kawhi Leonard led the way offensively for the Spurs, although he
shot just 6-of-15 from the field en route to scoring 19 points. LaMarcus
Aldridge added 18 points of his own to go along with six rebounds, while the
only other Spur to score in double figures was Pau Gasol, who came off the bench
to score 18 points in 24 minutes. As a team, it was a performance to forget
shooting the ball for San Antonio, as they hit just 41.7 percent of their shots
from the field Thursday. Up next, the Thunder will stay home Saturday to play
the Jazz, while the Spurs will look to get back on the right track against the
Warriors on Saturday.
