The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Sacramento Kings 90-86 in overtime Friday at the Las Vegas Summer League.
Sacramento appeared to be well on their way to a first win in Las Vegas with a double-digit lead heading into the fourth, but they simply couldn’t hold on. They were outscored 28-18 in the fourth and 6-2 in the overtime session. Turnovers proved to be the Kings’ major downfall, as they committed 23, while forcing just 13. In addition, the Spurs outscored the Kings 42-32 in the paint.
Rookie Skal Labissiere led the Kings in scoring, dropping 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting while adding five rebounds. Second-round pick Isaiah Cousins made the start at point guard and tallied 10 points and five rebounds. The only other starter in double figures was Elgin Cook (10 points), while Retin Obasohan paced the bench with 10 points.
Leading the way for the Spurs was newly-signed first-round pick Dejounte Murray, who scored 20 points while accumulating nine assists, four rebounds and four steals in the best performance of his young professional career. Bryn Forbes and Davis Bertans, who both recently signed contracts with San Antonio, both scored 15, helping to make up for the absences of Jonathan Simmons and Kyle Anderson.
The Kings finish summer league play 0-5, while the Spurs move to 3-2 with the overtime win.
