The Philadelphia 76ers rallied to beat the San Antonio Spurs, 94-86, at the Utah Summer League at Huntsman Center on Thursday evening.
Without first overall pick Markelle Fultz, who was given the night off, Philadelphia (1-2) overcame a 79-72 deficit with 6:22 to play by outscoring the Spurs, 22-7, the rest of the way, including a 14-0 stretch in the final 2:14. Four 76ers reserves scored in double figures, led by former St. John’s forward Isaiah Miles’ 18 points. Philadelphia forced 23 turnovers and shot 47.3 percent from the field.
That helped offset another solid performance from San Antonio second-year man Bryn Forbes, who finished with a team-high 21 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal to lead the Spurs (1-2). Cory Jefferson stepped up off the bench to add 11 points and four rebounds. Davis Bretons had nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks.
Australian forward Jonah Bolden added 16 points for the 76ers, while Brandon Austin had 15. Isaiah Briscoe totaled 10 points, two assists and two steals in an efficient 12 minutes. Alex Poythress, who showed promise this past season in a six-game cameo, tallied nine points, one rebound and one assist.
