Running Diary: Lakers vs. Jazz (1/10/16)

Below is a running diary of the Lakers’ matchup against the Utah Jazz, with comments drawn from Mike Trudell’s @LakersReporter Twitter account, to ensure you’re covered from start to finish.

First Quarter

LAL have been lackadaisical to start in a few of the games Kobe’s missed this season, and they are again tonight. Utah up 9-2.

Utah reached 9 points at the 7:11 mark … and hasn’t scored since. LAL just reached 9 on a Sacre jumper with 2:40 in the 1st. All tied.

Utah hit B2B 3-pointers to manage 15 points to LAL’s 14 in a wretched shooting performance by both teams in the 1st. LAL at 24%, Jazz 35%.

Second Quarter

Without Kobe/Russell/Bass, LAL have had to go to Huertas/Sacre/MWP in the 2nd unit, and Utah’s bench is on a 13-4 run. 28-18 overall.

LAL run a lot of 1st unit offense though Kobe, and Russell runs the 2nd unit. Without either, nobody’s been directing traffic. UTA up 40-25.

Rough half for the Lakers, and a good 2nd Q for Utah, who take a resulting 43-30 lead into halftime. Clarkson had 10 for LAL.

Third Quarter

A wild exchange of steals by the Lakers (2 from Clarkson) and blocks by the Jazz ultimately ended w/a missed 3 by Williams. Utah up 14.

Randle checked in two minutes ago and has been moving fine on that bruised foot. LAL trails 59-47 with 1:53 to play in the 3rd Q.

Randle got an and-1 to fall on one end and cleared the final board on the other to reach 7 pts w/5 rebs in 16 min; LAL down 61-50 after 3.

Fourth Quarter

Roy Hibbert just fouled out trying to help on Hayward. Larry Nance, Jr. checks in. Should be a good stretch of minutes of him + Randle.

Utah has this one well under control, LAL needing some very good fortune down 76-64 with 2:50 to play. Hayward has 21 to lead the Jazz.

So LAL at least avoid setting their lowest mark for points as Williams (16P, 8R, 6A) hits 2 FT’s with 1:41 left. Utah up 78-70.
