Running Diary: Lakers at Spurs (2/6/16)

Below is a running diary of the Lakers’ matchup against the San Antonio Spurs, with comments drawn from Mike Trudell’s @LakersReporter Twitter account, to ensure you’re covered from start to finish.

First Quarter

We’re tied at 6 early in San Antonio, with 2 FT’s from Williams following Randle’s jumper and Kobe’s long 2 for LAL.

Jordan Clarkson’s off to a good start in his hometown – he missed the 1st game here w/an ankle sprain – with 8 points in 11 minutes.

San Antonio takes a 29-20 lead out of the 1st Q, led by 8 bench points from Patty Mills. LAL got 8 from Clarkson in his hometown.

Second Quarter

Roy Hibbert will not return due to a left ankle sprain.

Clarkson continues to enjoy playing in his hometown, up to 13 points on 5 of 9 FG’s after a pull-up 3 cut the SAS lead to 41-38.

A dribble drive from Randle, capped by a spin move, put LAL up 51-50 on San Antonio in the final minute of the half. Randle has 10 and 7.

Leonard scored the final 4 points of the 2nd Q to give SAS a 54-51 lead halftime. LAL hit 15 FT’s, forced 8 SAS TO’s to hang in.

Third Quarter

LaMarcus Aldridge (20 points) has it going in the 3rd Q, hitting 3 jumpers over Sacre to make it a 60-55 SAS lead.

Kobe blocked Aldridge on one end, then pulled up for a J on the other to get LAL within 4 at 70-66. 5-0 LAL run.

Make that 3 straight 3’s from Kobe (NBA JAM ), who drained his 3rd straight plus the foul. FT coming; he has 15 of his 19 in the 3rd.

Russell’s 3 followed Clarkson’s put-back slam to put LAL up 81-79 heading into the 4th Q. Spurs have won 36 straight games at home.

Fourth Quarter

Lou Williams connected on a wing 3 to give LAL their biggest lead at 86-81, but Simmons answered for SAS. 9:35 to play.

Kobe drained a game-tying 3 … and Danny Green answered w/his 3rd of the 4th Q. Kobe has 4 triples for 4 straight games.

This Texas shootout continues as Lou Williams answers the Green make with 1 of his own. 99-all, 2 minutes left.

Tony Parker’s been getting the job done late in the 4th, his bucket at the rim putting the Spurs up 103-100 with 1:02 to play.

Kobe says goodbye to San Antonio with a worthy effort. Spurs keep their home streak alive at 37 straight wins. 106-102 the final.
