Below is a running diary of the Lakers’ matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, with comments drawn from Mike Trudell’s @LakersReporter Twitter account, to ensure you’re covered from start to finish.
First Quarter
Strong start for Julius Randle, who picked off a pass and exploded down the court for a 2-handed dunk to open the scoring in Brooklyn.
Kobe’s 0 for 4 to start tonight. He talked pregame about having yet to find his rhythm/legs since the calf injury in the preseason.
Jordan Clarkson’s been LAL’s best 3-point shooter this season, reaching 50% (8 for 16) with a make off Randle’s crosscourt pass.
After getting right back into the game, LAL gave up a 6-0 run to close the 1st, Brooklyn taking a 27-18 lead into the 2nd.
Second Quarter
Kobe’s first field goal came after he used his body to get through Shane Larkin and finished at the rim. LAL are w/in 5.
Moments ago, @Dloading had a nasty crossover that put Jarrett Jack on his bottom before Russell rose to hit a jumper. The crowd enjoyed it.
D’Angelo Russell just drained back-to-back 3-pointers to reach 10 points. Last time he was in this building, he got drafted at No. 2.
After an 0 for 6 start, Kobe found his touch in the 2nd Q, hitting 4 of 6 FG’s for 12 points, helping LAL take a 52-47 lead into halftime.
Third Quarter
Back-to-back layups from Russell and Clarkson put LAL up 61-54, forcing a Brooklyn time out. Russell has a team-high (his season high) 14.
Russell again using the screen well for a pull-up jumper. He’s 6 of 9 for 16 points with 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
This new Lakers second unit competed well once again, opening a 79-72 lead heading into the 4th Q. Metta World Peace all over defensively.
