Running Diary: Lakers at Magic (11/11/15)

Below is a running diary of the Lakers’ matchup against the Orlando Magic, with comments drawn from Mike Trudell’s @LakersReporter Twitter account, to ensure you’re covered from start to finish.

First Quarter

3 is becoming a thing early this season. How about Metta going 8 for 11 from 3?

Great start from D’Angelo Russell … he has 7 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists to push LAL to a 12-7 lead. Also had a nice block on D.

It got a little sloppy in the middle, but LAL started (10-3) and finished (4-0 run) the 1st Q well. Orlando leads 26-25.

Second Quarter

Should have noted earlier: Victor Oladipo is out for the game due to concussion symptoms. Got wrapped up with World Peace earlier.

No. 27 overall pick Larry Nance, Jr. in his 9 minutes: 4 for 4 FG’s, 8 points, 2 boards, 1 assist, plus some good defense. LAL up 41-40.

Not as strong a 2nd Q for Russell, whose 3rd turnover turned into a Fournier 3 on the other end, putting Orlando up 48-45 at the half.

Third Quarter

D’Angelo Russell hit a deep 3, his 2nd make, at the end of the shot clock. Randle gets his 4th assist, and LAL lead 50-48. 5-0 run.

Orlando is really struggling to finish inside. Hibbert and Randle are contesting well, but some missed layups. They’re at 32.1% FG’s.

Very poor finish to the 3rd Q from LAL. Up 3, they failed to get a loose ball with 54 seconds left, then gave up a quick 7-0 run. 74-70 ORL.

Fourth Quarter

Have I mentioned Larry Nance, Jr.? This time, he flew in for an offensive board and put it back. 6 for 6, 13 bench points, 3 boards, 1 dime.

And we’re tied after a tough hoop from Julius Randle, a pretty spinning bucket in the paint. 1:05 to go…

Hibbert put back a Williams miss, but the Williams shot didn’t appear to hit the rim, meaning a shot clock violation. Magic ball, 00.8 left.

Vucevic hit a buzzer beater, and the Lakers lose. 101-99.
