Rondae Hollis-Jefferson: Ugly start to season rages on

Hollis-Jefferson was viewed as a potential breakout candidate heading into 2016-17 after submitting a promising rookie season — particularly as a defender — and because there were few players standing in the way of him seeing major playing time on a talent-deprived roster. Though he’s started all four of the Nets’ games and has seen 25.3 minutes per contest, Hollis-Jefferson has been about as awful as imaginable. He’s averaging a meager 2.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, well below what he posted in more limited court time during his injury-shortened rookie year. He’s compounded matters by shooting just 4-for-19 (21%) from the floor while turning the ball over a total of eight times. It’s safe to cut him in shallower formats at this point, but those in deep leagues may still want to exercise patience with the 21-year-old if there’s an extra bench spot available.
