The San Antonio Spurs (8-2) defeated the Portland Trail Blazers (4-8) by a score of 93-80 on Monday night, handing them their sixth loss in a row. Meanwhile, the Spurs have now won five games in a row and are 4-0 at home.
The Spurs had control for most of the game, holding a near 10 point cushion most of the way. Portland had an early lead and got close again in the fourth quarter but could not maintain anything consistent against the San Antonio machine.
The Blazers were led by their back court Damian Lillard and C.J. MacCollum, but did not get enough contribution from the rest of the squad to compete with the well rounded Spurs. Lillard had 27 points, six assists and seven rebounds and shot 10-21 from the field. MacCollum dropped 15 points on 6-14 shooting, he also had two assists, three rebounds and one steal in 33 minutes. The only other Blazer to score in double digits was Al-Farouq Aminu, who had a strong game with 17 points on 7-14 shooting, 3-5 from deep and four rebounds.
The San Antonio Spurs showed a balanced team effort as usual, with six players scoring in double digits. Ironically, LaMarcus Aldridge was the only starter not to score in double digits for the Spurs, as he faced his former team. Kawhi Leonard was the high point man for the Spurs with 19, he also added nine rebounds, three assits, two steals and two blocks, in 30 minutes. Tim Duncan had 10 points and nine rebounds in 28 minutes. Manu Ginobili dropped 17 points, along with four rebounds and three assists, in 22 minutes off the bench. Tony Parker went 4-9 from the field and finished with 10 points and seven assists.
The Spurs will look to stay perfect at home as the Nuggets come to town on Wednesday. Next up for Portland will be a visit to Huston for a match on Wednesday, where they will look to break their current slide.
