Daryl Morey Stepping Down As Rockets General Manager

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is stepping down, according to multiple reports.

Morey has been running the franchise’s basketball operations since the 2007-08 season.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the news of Morey’s departure, while also adding Houston’s plans to promote executive vice president of basketball operations Rafael Stone to general manager. The decision to step down was “100 percent” made by Morey, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

The Rockets have made the playoffs eight consecutive seasons under Morey’s direction, which is the longest active streak in the NBA. He signed a five-year contract extension in early 2019.
