Rajon Rondo recorded his second triple-double in the last three games (14 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds), DeMarcus Cousins added 33 points and nine rebounds, and Rudy Gay chipped in 25 points to help the Kings end a six-game skid.
Sactown jumped out to a 36-23 advantage in the opening frame, and never let the Pistons closer than five points the rest of the way to secure the victory.
The purple and black also saw a solid defense effort, holding a quality Pistons squad to just 38 percent from the field and 28 percent from beyond the arc. Although Detroit boasts the League’s leading rebounder in Andre Drummond, behind a combined 22 from Rondo and Omri Casspi and nine from Boogie, the Kings were able to win the rebounding battle, 46-to-45.
- Rudy Gay returned to form after a rough shooting first eight games, going 10-of-14.
- Rondo is the first Kings player since Mike Bibby in ’05-’06 to record three straight games of 10-plus assists.
- DeMarcus Cousins tied his career-high with four three-pointers – all of which came in the first half.
A funny moment of the night came between Kings big men Koufos and Cousins, as Boogie missed his teammate’s high-five attempt but later hit him with the daps on Twitter.
The Kings will look to get their second-consecutive win when they face the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night at Sleep Train Arena.
