Norman Powell scored a game-high 29 points as the Toronto Raptors rallied in the fourth quarter to knock off the Minnesota Timberwolves, 82-80, in the Las Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Sunday.
The Timberwolves led, 66-57, entering the fourth quarter, but the Raptors outscored them, 25-15, in the final 10 minutes, much of it thanks to Powell. The 2015 second-round draft pick hit a running layup to tie, 69-69, with 4:05 to play and then a minute later hit the first of back-to-back 3-pointers, the second of which gave Toronto a commanding lead at 78-71 with 2:14 left. A couple of Delon Wright free throws and a bank shot with 5.2 seconds remaining was all the Raptors (2-0) would need.
Powell added eight rebounds and three assists, and Wright finished with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Bruno Caboclo had 15 points and two of the Raptors’ nine blocks.
The Timberwolves were led by Kris Dunn, the fifth overall pick in this year’s draft, who had 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting with nine rebounds and four assists. Dunn, though, committed eight fouls and had more turnovers (two) than field goals (one) in the fourth quarter.
Point guard Tyus Jones totaled 18 points and four assists, Adrien Payne finished with 13 points and six rebounds and Xavier Silas had 12 points off the bench for Minnesota (0-2).
Both teams play Monday when the Timberwolves face the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Raptors take on the Dallas Mavericks.
