HEAT.com's player spotlight for this past week features Wayne Ellington. To put it simply, Ellington has made an immediate impact since returning from a right thigh contusion. In fact, the former UNC Tar Heel ranked second on the team in net rating (plus-4.6) and third in points per game (15.0) over the past four contests.
Throughout the week, Ellington lit it up from the perimeter and was nearly automatic from mid-range. A lot of that was because the swingman moved very well off screens to free himself up for a clean look. While Ellington shot 66.7 percent from mid-range and 37 percent from beyond the arc, he also made all five of his attempts in the restricted area. On the flip side of the ball, the 29-year-old was very active and showed quick hands quite often.
Ellington's best performance of the week came against the Denver Nuggets on November 30. In that contest, he had 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-9 from distance, four steals, two rebounds, two assists and a plus-nine rating.
