Pistons Defeat Suns, 112-95

The Detroit Pistons defeated the Phoenix Suns, 112-95, at Palace of Auburn Hills
on Sunday. Detroit was expected to win this game easily, but it took a late run
for them to prevail. In fact, the Pistons went on a 35-12 run in a 10-minute
span between the third and fourth quarters to overcome a 12-point deficit and
eventually pull away. The game was relatively close up to that point though, as
there were nine lead changes, with neither team leading by more than 12 points
until the final five minutes. Phoenix really struggled with their shots, as they
went just 35 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and 63
percent from the free-throw line. Rebounding was also key for Detroit, as they
won that battle, 63-47. The Suns (22-48) had a tough task here without Eric
Bledsoe and Devin Booker, as they didn’t have enough ammunition to match with
the Pistons. Tyler Ulis shot just 7-of-24 from the field, but still accrued 17
points, three rebounds, 11 assists and three steals. T.J. Warren finished with
15 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Alan Williams recorded a
double-double off the bench, providing 11 points and 12 rebounds. On deck for
Phoenix is a road matchup versus the Miami Heat on Tuesday. The Pistons (34-36)
are in must-win mode every game out and this one was a bit too close for
comfort. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was the player of the game, as he collected 23
points, three rebounds and eight assists. Andre Drummond was equally as good,
accumulating 18 points, 18 rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Marcus Morris
amassed 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Aron Baynes was huge off the
bench, totaling 13 points and 17 rebounds in just 17 minutes of action.
Detroit’s next game is a favorable one, as they play the Brooklyn Nets on the
road on Tuesday.
