Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry: On what jumped out to him with your fourth win in a row: “I thought that in the first quarter we started and did the right thing with moving the basketball. Then in the second quarter we got a little stagnant. Our defense was fine, but I thought our offense was the big problem in the second quarter. I thought we stopped moving the basketball and got a little stagnant, kind of an ISO team and that's not what we are. But I thought we came out of the locker room in the right way in the third quarter by moving the basketball and flying around defensively. I thought it held over from there and we finished the game the right way. We did a great job.”
On Anthony Davis's 21 first-quarter points, and if it concerns that New Orleans needed twenty-one from Anthony Davis to have a great start: “No, I don't think we need that. But I think what we are an unselfish team. If somebody is doing well, we are going to milk that. I don't call a lot of the stuff. Tim is calling a lot of the stuff on the floor. And you see Anthony (Davis) doing great, he tries to put us in a position where he has space and he can operate. Anthony is very unselfish and if he doesn't have shots he'll give it up to the right people. So it wasn't so much of him getting twenty-one points, it's just the way he got them was great because I thought we did a good job of getting him in the right space and giving him the opportunity to do that.”
On What did your team do to respond after Minnesota served the first punch in the third quarter, and ended up dominating the third quarter?: “I thought we were very good defensively. As I said you look at (Anthony) Wiggins' numbers and if you can hold him to nineteen, you've done a great job on him taking the ball to the basket. We committed a lot of fouls in the second quarter. But we kept plugging away and kept playing and adjust to the way the game is being called and we did that. We did a great job of taking away their inside game and then running guys off the three point line.”
Pelicans Forward Anthony Davis: On how good a four-game winning streak feels right now: “It feels good. We haven't done anything. We're still on the losing side, but we're just playing a good brand of basketball right now. Guys are very confident and playing well defensively, so everybody is locked in and trying to figure out what everyone is doing and everybody's roles.”
On if a 45-point night feels different than when 30 was a big deal or 20 was a big deal: “We were actually just talking about this. My rookie year, I was like, 'I just want to get 20.' Now he says if I don't get 30, I play bad. But with all of that, it's like, 'Did we get the win, though?' If we win the game, I'm good.”
Pelicans Guard Tim Frazier: On winning four in a row: “Four in a row… Man, we just have to make sure we don't get complacent. Four in a row is nice, but we still got a long season to go. We got to come out and play the same way we've been playing these four games against these teams. Be hungry.”
On what is leading streak? Whether it be confidence or momentum: “Both of them. Honestly, I think it's both. Jrue (Holiday) coming in brought a huge spark for us and we've just been rolling with it. A lot of it is confidence. Guys are shooting the ball with confidence and playing hard. A lot of it is just coming out and playing hard with execution. We believe that we're a good team and we knew that all the way. Now it's starting to click for us.”
