Offensive Surge Helps Pacers Beat Nets

The Indiana Pacers cruised past the Brooklyn Nets, 116-79, in the first consolation round of the Las Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Friday.

The Nets kept it close early but the Pacers pulled away in the second and third quarter, leading by as much as 41 points at one point in the fourth quarter. The Pacers sported a scorching 48.6 percent field-goal percentage and went 13-for-29 from beyond the arc.  The Nets coughed up the ball 19 times and simply couldn’t get anything going on offense, converting on only 27.6 percent from long range.

The Pacers were led by starting point guard C.J. Wilcox with 22 points, including 6 three-pointers.  The 2014 first-round draft pick from Washington found a spot on the Pacers summer roster after stints with the Clippers, Magic, Trail Blazers and the Warriors over the past three years. Second-round pick Alize Johnson came just shy of his second double-double in the Summer League, scoring nine points along with 10 rebounds.

The Nets sat previous Summer League starters like Jarrett Allen, Shawn Dawson and Milton Doyle in favor of players who had yet to see much action, and their inexperience showed on Friday. Undrafted Texas A&M product Tyler Davis drew the start under center and was the lone bright spot for the Nets, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds. He also had two blocked shots.

The Pacers will move on to the second consolation round, while the Nets won’t reconvene until the preseason.
