Despite an incredible late-game push by the Minnesota Timberwolves (4-5), the Indiana Pacers (6-4) walked away with the win, recording a final score of 107-103.
Paul George continued to prove to the world that he's as good as ever, recording 29 points, nine rebounds, and four assists while turning the ball over just once in 39 minutes of play. George has looked dominant since missing the bulk of the 2014-15 season with a leg fracture, posting averages of 23.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. The Pacers now have a three-game win streak going, due in large part to the elite play of George. Offseason acquisition Monta Ellis also exploded for 24 points on efficient 11-for-17 shooting. Center Ian Mahinmi saw an increase in playtime after it was announced that rookie big man Myles Turner (hand) will miss at least the next four weeks with a chip fracture in his thumb. Turner may be missed by the already thin Pacers frontcourt; however, his presence was unnecessary on Friday, as the Pacers were able to win the rebounding battle 40-39.
With point guard Ricky Rubio (hamstring) sidelined, sophomore Zach LaVine was given the reigns to the Minnesota offense. LaVine played 40 minutes, switching from running the point to playing shooting guard alongside veteran Andre Miller. LaVine went for a season-high 26 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Rookie Karl-Anthony Towns narrowly missed yet another double-double, recording 12 points and nine rebounds in 27 minutes on the floor.
The Wolves will look to bounce back at home on Sunday, as they prepare to take on a Western-Conference foe in the Memphis Grizzlies. The Pacers, meanwhile, will look to extend their win streak on Monday in Chicago as they take on the Bulls, a division rival.
