The day after the most extraordinary season of his career was apparently too
soon for Russell Westbrook to start pondering his contract future with the
Oklahoma City Thunder.
Westbrook, still smarting from being eliminated from the playoffs by the Houston
Rockets a night earlier, said he has yet to consider signing a long-term
contract extension with the Thunder.
With his first child on the way and no pressure to make any decisions on his
contract right away, Westbrook is signed through the 2017-18 season, the
superstar point guard will take his time plotting for the future …
Russell Westbrook said he hasn’t yet considered signing a long-term contract
extension with Oklahoma City, but the Thunder star said he wants to be with the
organization long-term.
“I haven’t thought about anything,” Westbrook said Wednesday, the day after the
Thunder’s season ended with a Game 5 loss in Houston. “Obviously, everybody
knows that I like Oklahoma City and I love being here. I love everybody here.
But I haven’t even thought about that.
“I’m worried about making sure my wife was all right, so everything else really
doesn’t matter at this point.”
Westbrook and his wife, Nina, are expecting their first child soon.
The new collective bargaining agreement makes it possible for Westbrook to sign
an extension for as many as six total years and for a greater percentage of the
total salary cap figure.
