The BMO NBA Courts Across Canada initiative executed over 21 clinics reaching over 600 kids over the course of summer – allowing them the opportunity to experience the positive impact of sport and engage in Canada’s fastest growing sport in their local community!
On the first stop of the tour, in a town where basketball is a part of the culture, the community of Skidegate, BC located in the Haida Gwaii First Nation was joined by former Toronto Raptor Jerome “Junk Yard Dog” Williams and members of team BMO, including senior vice president of BC and Yukon division Mike Bonner for a court refurbishment unveiling and ceremony, followed by a day of clinics for youth and coaches.
Over the summer, seven communities – including two First Nations communities were visited by NBA legends, players and clinicians for a day of skills and drills as a part of the BMO NBA Courts Across Canada initiative. In the communities of Dartmouth, Haida Gwaii and Quebec City, the local gyms were refurbished leaving a lasting legacy in each community.
At the last stop of the BMO NBA Courts Across Canada initiative, members of the community were joined by NBA star Emmanuel Mudiay, who currently plays for the Denver Nuggets, to lead the kids through a number of clinics. As well, the Patro Laval gymnasium was refurbished in hopes of only building on the legacy it has already established within the community!
The Boys and Girls Club of Dartmouth Nova Scotia had their court refurbished thanks to several BMO employee volunteers, who helped complete the transformation of the 70-year-old the facility. Jerome “JYD” Williams was also on-site to perform a series of clinics for the kids as part of the BMO NBA Courts Across Canada initiative.
