The contest was highly anticipated due to it being Deandre Jordan’s first game in Dallas since this past summer’s controvsial decision. The controversy surrounded him backing out of signing with Dallas following a verbal commitment during the NBA’s free agency moratorium period. Judging by the crowd’s reaction, they hadn’t forgot about it either. Jordan’s nine points (3-5 FG, 3-9 FT), 11 boards, and one blocked shot in 27 minutes weren’t enough for the Clippers.
Six starters for Los Angeles scored in double figures, including Blake Griffin who chipped in a team high 21. Chris Paul provided the team’s only double-double with 11 points and 11 assists, while his backup Austin Rivers helped out with 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two triples in 27 minutes. The Clippers will look to turn things around Thursday in Pheonix.
Dallas was led by Dirk Nowitzki’s vintage 31 points (11-14 FG, 5-6 3PT, 4-5 FT), and 11 boards. Wesley Matthews had his best game as a Maverick as he continues to work his way back from tearing his Achilles last spring. He tallied 25 points (9-13 FG, 3-4 3PT, 4-4 FT), six rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 33 minutes. All five starters scored in double figures. Dallas will welcome Staple Center’s other tenant Friday night.
