Barnes’ poor shooting night dinged an otherwise impressive statistical output, though his proficiency from three-point range was at least encouraging to see in his return from a minor knee injury. Due to an onslaught of injuries for the Grizzlies last season, Barnes was forced to take on more of a scoring role than he had in the past, averaging 10.0 points per game but shooting a miserable 38.1 percent from the floor. Assuming that the Kings are able to avoid long-term injuries to key players, Barnes will settle into his more traditional complementary role, which should allow him to be more judicious with his shot selection. That may help him trend closer to his career 44 percent mark from the field, but he’s likely to sacrifice some counting stats production in the process with the ball in his hands less often.
