The Hornets surrendered a first-round pick to acquire Belinelli back in June, but the 30-year-old has turned in only a so-so preseason, averaging 7.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 35.7 percent from the field. Fellow reserve shooting guard Jeremy Lamb has easily outperformed Belinelli, and figures to open the regular season as coach Steve Clifford’s top wing off the bench.
