Nogueira was likely to serve as the top backup to starting center Jonas Valanciunas in the Oct. 26 regular-season opener against the Pistons, but depending on the severity of the sprain, he could be out of commission for that contest. More word on Nogueira’s health should arrive in the coming days. If he’s ultimately ruled out for the start of the season, rookie Jakob Poeltl would take on No. 2 center duties.
